Hello all!
Travelling our way from Asia to Africa we were glad that we had to cross Germany. A wonderful opportunity to meet family & friends (and colleagues too) plus Wischnewski was happy to receive proper treatment after 4 years on the road.
When you get back to your home country there are many things to do besides meeting people: seeing the dentist and other medics for all kinds of treatment, checkups etc. needs a lot of time since (big surprise) it is hard to get appointments. So, we spend some weeks in the region of Goettingen and Kassel where we have the best connections to the medics. It was a very good opportunity to also meet friends & family.
Besides the medics-run we spend a lot of time in workshops to upgrade Wischnewski. After 4 years we got clear impressions of what is missing: new (glass) windows and hatches, a washing machine, new Starlink + router + antenna, extra charger, new toilette (yes!! …@Axel: now no more never-ending-horror-stories of the old vacuum-flush-toilet :-)), new dashcam, new alarm system, a coffee-machine, new mattresses. There was also a lot to be checked towards the basic truck: TÜV, fix steering, new shock absorber, new tires, new alternator, fix breaks. We also got a new motorcycle (500ccm Honda, wow!). That was a lot of work, and it also did cost a good bunch of money (but we were happy to invest since most of the upgrades will bring substantial benefit).
Since we left Germany in August 2021 a lot has changed familywise, so returning ‚home‘ now gave us a special feeling since vital parts of that home did disappear since 2021: Heikes father and Carstens mother. So, returning home was different. The family did get much smaller. What made us very happy was meeting again a lot of our (very faithful) friends – they were all very much willing to meet – we liked that very much! It was a great pleasure to meet our friends in Ellwangen, Kassel, Göttingen, Düsseldorf, Korschenbroich, Grevenbroich, Frankfurt und Usingen. Very pleasant meetings with great hospitality: THANK ALL OF YOU very much! And even if we already mentioned in our last posts: we loved to enjoy all that wonderful food that is available in Germany. You may not be aware, but Germany (West-Europe countries) are a kind of wonderland when it comes to the variety of food that you can purchase. You cannot compare it to countries outside (West-) Europe. This is a big plus for the Germans (don’t forget!). And then all the different kinds of restaurants available, this is another wonderland (believe us, you do not have this in Arabia, Persia, India, or Africa!). Beside the friends & family we also got the chance to meet a lot of colleagues. Even if we had a lot of video calls during the last 4 years, it was (of course) a big difference to sit physically together and chat, while having a nice meal or just having a drink together. After all that time working ‚online / on video‘ it also was a great moment for me to get the opportunity to present at the meeting of the ‚German Digital Board Advisors‘ about ‚New Mobile Work-Life‘ (our trip and how working as a Management Advisor works on the road) – nothing better than real meetings with real people 😉
Altogether we spent 3,5 (packed) months in Germany – and we loved it! But we were also happy to be able to continue our trip towards Africa in September 2025 (after a big shopping tour …German food, wine etc. … as much as we could put into Wisnewski’s trunk :-0). Restarting our trip meant: travelling through France and Spain towards the ferry to Morocco, that was waiting for us in Algeciras, South-Spain, together with the team of 5 vehicles that planned to travel together in Africa.
